This is a Reader Submitted recipe, sent to me by my friend Shawn Planchon. We’ve been buddies for a number of years, and when I said I was taking reader recipes, he hopped on the bandwagon and sent me this delicious Apple Cake Recipe.
I have not made it myself, and all of the credit goes to Shawn. It is an incredible way to use your favorite apples in a surprising way. I hadn’t had apple cake before Shawn introduced me to it. It’s the perfect way to bring your desserts into Autumn, though.
The warm flavors of the spices pair well with your favorite mulled cider or hot chocolate recipe. Imagine yourself hanging by your fireplace with a slice of this cake and hot chocolate, wrapped in the warmest blanket you can find, with fuzzy socks, purring kitties, snoring puppies, and the cool air spinning snowflakes outside your window. That’s what I imagine when I’m indulging in a piece of this cake.
While we’re on the subject, what are your favorite things about fall? I absolutely love the orange and red hues that the leaves become, as they take their last breaths of the year. I enjoy hearing the crunch under my feet, as I take a quiet walk in the moonlight with my friends.
I especially appreciate the way the world works, as it gives one final hurrah to close out the year, and to sleep for the winter. It’s the signal that lets us know that the winter holidays are coming in the Northern Hemisphere.
Do you have any Autumn traditions? Do you make any of your recipes only at this time of year? Are you in an area that gets particularly chilly starting this time of year, or are you in the Southern Hemisphere and getting ready for Spring and Summer? Let me know in the comments below! I love to see what everyone does to make their seasonal preparations special.
